Many of us who were bullied as children think our problems ended when we grew up. It is very cruel to find out that these problems are cyclical: today our children may get bullied at school.

If we did not have the proper tools as teenagers to deal with bullying, how can we teach our children to cope with it now? We cannot give what we don’t have.

Enter Dr. Orly Katz and all her expertise in leadership, empowerment and self esteem.

Dr. Katz has written not one, but two different collections of books dealing with children and teenager issues: “Surviving Junior High” and “Surviving Primary School.”

The first book on the Primary School series, “Peer Pressure Vs. True Friends”, teaches our children everything they need to know about bullying.

If you are anything like me, you will remember some parts of your education as a battlefield where it was every man for himself.

Dr. Orly speaks to the young at their own level. She does not intent to preach or patronize. Through a series of real stories and anecdotes from her own childhood she teaches our children what to do and how to do it. She never says “you should do this or you should do that.” Instead, she says things like “I realized I made a mistake when this came back to me in the form of…” It is hard to argue with that kind of thinking, even when you are a teenager.

The books also have a series of questionnaires that will allow our children to understand if they are bullies, if they are being bullied, how to get away from it, and in general, a good measurement on their own values.

Experience has taught me that my children will not always listen to me; they may feel embarrassed, ashamed or they may only be trying to avoid my long and boring lectures on how to live life. Same experience has also taught me that when that happens, I can always “accidentally” slip a book into their lives, so that they will learn to solve their own problems.

I am planning to do just that with Dr. Orly’s books.

Peer Pressure vs True Friendship Surviving Primary School Children books ages 912 Children books ages 912 Book 1 edition by Orly Katz Children eBooks Reviews

This is a great book for elementary school children. It is written to help children take control of their environment, to not be victims, to stand up for themselves, and to feel confident about themselves. It says ages 9-13, which is about 3rd to 7th grade; I would feel comfortable reading it with my seven-year-old, who is going into second grade. This book is well written, and is written in a way that kids will relate to. It doesn't talk down to the children, yet it is written on their level so they will understand. Dr. Katz uses many examples of situations that may occur in elementary school and how to handle them. I love the chapter about saying "no" to things if they will put us in bad situations. I also enjoyed the chapter on Energy Drains. I think it is really good for kids to know the difference between tattling and reporting. This book is so relevant today; bullying is prevalent, and helping children to stand up for themselves is so important. You may read my full review on my book blog the-readathon.blogspot.com.
My son is reading for testing tae-kwon-do black belt assignment. He seems to enjoy it. we purchase it e-book.
This book helped my 10 year old daughter overcome some of the peer pressure battles she was facing. Great book! I have a friend who has already asked to borrow it.
This book had so much great advice in it. It has really helped me to learn how to stand up for myself. I really recommend this book if you need some good advice and some good lessons on standing up for yourself.
I love this series of books--especially this one, because the target audience is so young. It's about encouraging children to be true to themselves, and what is more important than that. The book contains good information, true stories and exercises that bring home each point.
This was/is a great ebook that is ideal for young people and adults. Peer pressure is something that we all have experienced and this ebook has some great information on how to deal with Peer Pressure.

I have read 4 ebooks by this author and they are all great. I highly recommend this and any of this authors ebooks..
I wish I had this book when I was young! Being a young father I spend a lot of time thinking about how to prepare my son for life. What can I do to help him have a better childhood than I did, (not that mine was bad, I just know I want more for my son) and that brings me onto reading lots of reviews about parenting books. I can tell you from experience that this is one of the BEST books on how to deal with bullies that I have came across so far. Excellently written, lots of very sound advice accompanied by short stories that keep this book very entertaining, and easy to read. I highly recommend it to anyone, whether you are dealing with a bully, advising somebody who is being bullied, or even if you think you are a bully.
Highly recommended.
